| Instruction To Authors INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology is the scientific journal of Istanbul Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery Foundation. The indexing name of the journal, hereinafter referred to as, is the Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology. The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology accepts original articles, case reports, and recent analyses on the ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery. These publications are expected to raise considerable interest with a scientific contribution the literature. The official languages of the journal are Turkish and English. The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology is a periodical journal which is published three times a year (January, May and September) with an annual volume edition. The manuscript, when published, will become the property of The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology. All manuscripts will be evaluated by the scientific board for their scientific contribution, originality and content. The manuscripts will be evaluated by two advisors, at least. The journal retains the right to accept or not to publish the manuscript or to make appropriate changes. Authors are responsible for the truth of presented data in terms of ethical, scientific and legal issues. MANUSCRIPT SPECIFICATIONS All manuscripts must be submitted via the online submission system after logging on to the website http://www.kbbuygulamalari.org. For further information, please visit the website. All manuscripts must be submitted in Turkish or English. Manuscripts must be accompanied by the “Copyright Transfer Statement”, signed by all authors, which indicates that the manuscripts have not been submitted to any other journal and not under review. The authors transfer the copyright to their article to The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology and accept that their manuscripts will not be submitted and published in any other journal in any other language without prior written consent of the Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology. The authors are responsible for the approval of the revised manuscript which will be published. PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS The Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology has the right to cancel or resend the manuscripts which are not in compliance with the journal standards. The manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Office Word Program in 13-point font size in Times New Roman or Arial with a 2.5 cm space on one side of A4 page with a 1.5 space. The manuscript must include the followings: title page, abstract, article, references, tables and figures. Title page: The first page must include the title of the article, first name, middle initial and last name of each author, name of departments and/or institutions to which the work should be attributed, and name, address, telephone and fax numbers and e-mail address of the corresponding author. This information must be only included in the first page to ensure an objective evaluation by the referees. Name of departments and/or institutions to which the work should be attributed in the Patients and Methods (Material and Method) section must be written as ……… to allow further additions when the manuscript is completely reviewed. This information will be written into the related section from the title page. Abstract: All manuscripts must be written in accordance with the national and international medical writing standards both in Turkish and English. Word limitation is 250 words for original articles and 150 words for case reports. All manuscripts must be accompanied by a structured abstract including Objective, Patients and Methods (Material and Method), Results, and Conclusion. Below the abstract provide up to 3-7 key words or short phrases using the Medical Subject Headings List of Index Medicus. Please refer to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/2009/mesh_browser/MBrowser.html for key words. English words must be included in brackets for unusual or obscure words in Turkish. The full term for which an abbreviation stands must precede its first use in the text followed by the abbreviation in brackets. Avoid beginning a sentence with an abbreviation or number. Manuscript: Research articles and case reports must be accompanied by title pages, main titles, subtitles and side titles written in different point font size. The manuscripts must be structured as follows: Research article: Introduction, Patients and Methods (Material and Methods), Results, and Discussion Case report: Introduction, Case Report, and Discussion. Case reports must include overall information as well as the case. Review article: Review article must have no more than a single author, who is an expert on the related issue. Introduction section is wider than abstract with the aim of the study and its justification. Patients and methods or result sections are not available. Discussion is longer with a synthesis of individual experiences and previous studies on the related issue. Following discussion, a conclusion or an interpretation of the findings must be included. The number of references must be higher than in other manuscripts. The references must necessarily include the individual studies of the author. Surgical technique articles / how to perform? Letter to the editor: Comments on a previously published article in the journal (including response letter to the critics). Letter to the editor: Must be written in a structure of a case report without an abstract and tables or figures. The related page of the tables and figures must be included; however, the tables and figures must be exhibited in a different page. All pharmaceutical products must be preferably expressed in generic names. The brand, model, manufacturer and origin of the medical devices mentioned in the text must be stated in brackets. Tables Each table with a title must be drawn in a different page as aforementioned. Source of the table must be written with a written consent of the publisher of the original text. FIgures, GraphIcs, PIctures and Legends Figures must be drawn professionally and submitted electronically to the journal as a picture format. Please ensure that the JPEG or TIFF files (400 dpi) comply with the journal standards before submission. Figures must be comprehensible without any reference to the text. Photomicrographic pathological preparations must include internal scales. Symbols, arrows or letters must be placed in a contrast color to the ground. A written consent must be obtained from the patient or his/her eyes must be covered to conceal his/her identity (by the publisher in accordance with the journal standards), if a photograph of the patient will be used in the text. Each figure must be numbered in a consecutive numerical order. All figures, pictures and graphics must be referred to “Figures” in the text. Legends: must be written in a different page following References in a consecutive numerical order with a 1.5 space. Abbreviations used in the legends must be written at the end of the legends in alphabetical order. For the microscopic figures, magnification ratio and staining technique must be stated. If previously published or electronically disseminated figures will be used, a written consent must be obtained from the third parties and/or publisher. The consent form must be also submitted to the Editorial Board of the journal via fax or mail. References: Number references consecutively in the References section in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text (not in alphabetical order). Avoid using unpublished study results or individual interviews in the references. The list of references must be checked by the author, by confirming through PubMed and online medical databases. The original versions of the references which are not written or confirmed will be requested. Also, avoid using undocumented references. The recommended style for references is ANSI based on the National Library of Medicine (NLM). You can find the citation examples in http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html. The titles of the journals must be abbreviated according to the style used in Index Medicus. Each reference number must be included in square brackets “[ ]” following the full stop. Each reference must comply with the reference mentioned in the text. Authors are responsible for the truth of citations and references. All references in the reference list must be stated in the text. The surname and name initials of the author are written in the reference list. In case of more than one author in the reference list, it is linked by a comma (,). If there are more than six authors, use “et al.” after the name of the first sixth author. INFORMED CONSENT/ETHICS Manuscripts reporting the results of experimental studies on human subjects must include a statement that an informed consent was obtained after the nature of the procedure(s) had been fully explained. Authors are advised to comply with internationally accepted guidelines and relevant regulations of the Turkish Ministry of Health, stating such compliance in their manuscripts. Reports of animal experiments must state that the Universal Helsinki Declaration of Animal Rights was followed. CONFLICT OF INTEREST Authors must indicate whether or not they have a potential or current financial relationship with the organization that sponsored the research (i.e. employment, direct payment, shareholding, preservation, consultancy, patent licensing or honorarium). All financial supports must be disclosed as an endnote in the text. FINANCIAL SUPPORT All manuscripts submitted or accepted to be publication will be evaluated by the scientific board of the Praxis of Otorhinolaryngology in terms of Turkish and English grammar and language (Manuscript Editing). Therefore, all authors are asked to pay an article processing fee. Color photographs will be printed, if the cost is granted by the author(s).
